Jewellery & Metal (MA)

About
…look through this showcase and the viewer/audience/reader will find wild experimentations in all corners…plays of material and idea…where jumpers solidify into ceramics…and…phones burst from two dimensions in pixelated growths…and…everyday bottles and wine glasses appear ancient in decoration…and…knives and forks dismantle in your hand with use…and…where jewellery cuddles you…and forms caper/cavort/dance in complex kline-like mathematical improbabilities…and where migration of material and peoples intertwine…and…materials are handled with empathy…delicacy…and care…and sometimes not…with meaning erased….food stains encouraged…and…organic matter dried and pierced…the works are effervescent with possibility…plasticity…multiplicity…of fluidity…these bodies of work are rife with reflection on the complexity of the world…of the ways in which complex systems integrate and fold into other complex systems…of thought and meaning and matter…perhaps…then….a question remains…how do we discuss the concept {or conceit} of change whilst avoiding cliché…it seems redundant to say that we live in times of change…the contemporary moment is marked by its flux…fluidity and emergence the standout metaphors/interpretations/observations/theories…artificial intelligences {a questionable use of the word} produce forms of non-sense which we believe humanly written…and to which we kindly donate sense to…trains run sometimes…prime ministers last forty-nine days…markets fluctuate violently…solid grasps of comfort in sugar shrink…particles can also be waves…nothing is solid…nothing…no-thing…is also a some-thing…all apparent…visible and experiential…material…but that does not mean that change cannot be enthralling….that it cannot evidence and comment on the world…the works present in this showcase…are the result of change…the experiential change of learning…through…experimentation…iteration…making…questioning…re-searching…they are works that mark the changing of a type of learning…a new format of royal college of art education…one marked by intensities…these artists/designers/makers presented here…have embraced change and the dynamism of intensive study…forging new collaborations…partnerships and dialogues…defining new intersubjective explorations of matter and meaning…of making thoughts manifest through action…we are jam…sticky….and excellent at rendering down components into cohesive explorations…we are jam…and…we make stuff…
