Yuhan Bai

Yuhan Bai is dedicated to the research of biodegradable material, future materials, womenswear design, and biological material derivative design. Her works are based on sustainable development and focused on lifestyle and use agricultural and kitchen waste as major raw materials for creation. Her design concepts have always been centred on the topic of sustainable development and commensalism combined with spiritual perception, thinking about the material and non-material. She also uses natural waste and digital technology to achieve a multi-dimensional connection between matter and ecology, to explore the possibilities of how people can connect with nature and achieve a sustainable lifestyle in an era of rapid technological development.

Bio material

When you look up at the stars, try to think about whether the human’s imagination is as boundless as the universe. When you look down on the landscape, think about how humans have coexisted with nature for such a long time.

In terms of nature, how do we reshape what we have created? How do we rethink and reconstruct the design system to further harmonize the intertwined environment and design? How do we integrate the laws of nature into the textile and fashion industries? I believe that sustainability involves not only the interaction between human and nature, the way of thinking that challenges traditional logic and improves ecology, but is also a challenge of imagination and technology. My design method is to make environmentally friendly biomaterials from all-natural plant-based materials and agricultural waste, meanwhile producing new degradable garments by combining human body structure and fashion language. Constantly breaking with traditional material and clothing concepts, and experimenting with new digital technologies to experiment with structures. On the one hand exploring more forms of expression in fashion, on the other hand experimenting with the plasticity and unknowability of materials from 2D to 3D (from plane to three-dimensional). In this project I have used corn husk, corn stigma, egg shells and plant charcoal powder as the main raw materials. The project is combined with resin 3D printing and CNC numerical control to explore the relationship between material structure and the human body.

The key factors humans should always keep in mind to lead us step-by-step towards the future are energy and imagination. What is happening in the world, how many opportunities we notice, how many mazes can’t be explained nowadays, which indicate the possibilities that will boost the dreams of today towards a world where we will no longer be dreaming. Harken the voices from terrific nature, treasure the rhythms as if we are singing along to an old song, counting the beats as we are sharing the same heart, Mercy mercy me please…

Fashion Film Please, take a moment... I need your empathy. You know how hard all this has come to be. Cherish it, please. Aware of the mistakes we made on our journey forward, Now we strive to repair, in a harmonious and primal way, To mend…To change… How can we reshape what we have created? How should we survive? Can we make some alterations? How do we maintain biodiversity?
