Possession

Tiehang Xi, a fashion designer based in Beijing, China, is adept in both menswear and womenswear. After receiving his BA in Fashion, he continued his journey in the field by pursuing an MA from the prestigious Royal College of Art. During his tenure there, he aimed to transcend the traditional confines of his Fashion major.

In the face of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence and technology, Tiehang recognized that conventional industries and methods are gradually becoming inadequate to cater to the evolving demands of the business world. To expand the horizons of his design approach, he delved into experimenting with human-computer interaction, various materials, and digital art.

Looking ahead, Tiehang intends to venture deeper into the realms of human-computer interaction and character design. He anticipates that as technology progresses, novel design methodologies will simultaneously enhance productivity and efficiency, enabling designers to work in a more effective and sustainable manner.

The accelerated progress of artificial intelligence has led to a revolutionary shift in both the design sector and the way people work. While AI has indeed provided more convenient lifestyles, it has simultaneously sparked a heightened sense of apprehension. As we look forward, the continuous evolution of AI implies that interactions with these technologies are poised to become a norm. This change has ignited several debates, from the protection of copyright to challenging our understanding and definition of creativity, thereby disrupting conventional thought patterns and creative methods. My initial motivation for initiating this project, within the framework of my independent research, was to examine the creative potential of AI, as well as the related design implications. There is an ongoing significant debate concerning AI-generated creations. My aim is to probe more deeply into both the benefits and latent dangers that this technology presents.

Secondary research
Secondary Research Images of alienation In the world setting of Cyberpunk, people, due to excessive modification of their prosthetics, eventually push their bodies beyond their limits, ultimately becoming social outcasts. They descend into cyberpsychosis and tread the path of self-destruction. With the advancement of technology and information technology, our individual dependence on technology grows daily, yet simultaneously we are gradually being alienated by technology. Artificial Intelligence Stable diffusion Midjourney Prompts Human-computer interaction
Prmpts Experiments of AI faceThis is the initial interaction I had with AI. I first used ChatGPT to have it describe its appearance, and attempted to design prompts to visualize the information it described. It depicted itself as a human with deep blue eyes, curly brown hair, and wheat-colored skin. I tried to generate different faces using its information and commands, to preliminarily explore the potential impact of such human-machine interactions in the future.
Artificial Intelligence Stable diffusion Midjourney Prompts Human-computer interaction
Stable Diffusion model and the function of IW of MidjourneyBuilding on my initial research, I used more prompts to try to make the human face more mechanized, and explored how AI understands its own mechanized body. I experimented with different models and functions for more detailed adjustments.
Electron Virus Alienation Digital experiments
3D Model Experiments of AlienationI studied virus forms and created electronic virus shapes with chatgpt4 through human-AI interaction. In the cyberpunk world, extreme self-modification has resulted in cyber psychosis. As AI continues to transform industries, we wonder if the definition of being human will change with future technological advancements. We are considering whether such rapid tech development might corrode humanity, similar to a virus invading our bodies and nervous systems.
Electron Virus Alienation Digital experiments
Experiments on the rendering effects of the electronic virus have endowed it with more detailed textures. This helps to better represent its inherent danger.
Mutated Skeleton
Experiments of Mutated SkeletonThrough research on progressive osseous fibrodysplasia, I want to combine parts of the human body with the distortion of the skeleton to explore another kind of visual language for human alienation.
Mutated Skeleton
By researching fibrous hyperplasia of bone morphogenetic material, I wanted to use this as an inspiration to make twisted bones of the human body and combine it with the mechanisation of the human being. Through parametric modelling, I ended up with some experiments with twisted bones.
Mutated Skeleton Alienation Leg Leg with animal shape
Through this exploration of alienation, I have tried to combine the structure of the human body with the structure of the animal body to make this visual language more profound, to reflect the impact on people in the future technological age, as well as the warnings and dangers for people. At the same time, I added mechanical parts to the inside of the thighs to accentuate the sense of technology and to become a new visual language.
