Jewellery & Metal (MA)

Louise Mok

Louise is a Jewellery Designer living and working in London. She studied Textiles at Central Saint Martins, during which time she was awarded The Queen’s Scholarship, The Clothworkers’ Bursary, and The Textile Society Award. Throughout this degree she became interested in three-dimensional form which led her to the RCA. Her studies here have generously been supported by the Burberry Scholarship.

Louise auto ethnographically expresses her childhood memories, using both hand and digital techniques to fittingly illustrate this. She retains her interest in colour and texture through Vitreous Enamelling.

Louise spent her childhood days exploring the hills of Ivinghoe and cooking with her father. While she made rice and he prepped the meat; he’d reminisce how “you could get any food you want at 3am in Hong Kong.” As she grew older, and she came to realise how different her dad’s upbringing was. When he explained his descendance from farmers in China, she reflected on how her life could have been so different. This collection subsequently conveys her many diasporic emotions: curiosity, insecurity, sadness and gratitude.
