Yiwen Hu

Yiwen Hu is a menswear designer with a Bachelor of Arts degree major in Fashion Design Technology:Menswear from London College of Fashion. She is currently researching and exploring the relationship between multi-dimensional space and garments in the fashion field. Her work focuses on exploring how different dimensions affect and shape the human body and perception, as well as the multi-dimensional possibilities of garments. As a fashion designer, Yiwen Hu believes that there is an infinite correspondence between science and art. She pursues the combination of science and art and recreates it through fashion as a medium. Yiwen Hu believes that by integrating cutting-edge physics hypotheses with fashion design, a new aesthetic can be created. In the intersection of physics hypotheses and fashion, she pursues to transcend traditional boundaries and restrictions, and she hopes to explore and convey deeper emotions and meanings in fashion, pushing fashion to a new dimension of time and space.

Yiwen Hu hopes to go beyond the traditional three-dimensional thinking mode,review and create fashion from a higher dimension perspective. Her project will push fashion design from three-dimensional space to higher dimensional space to explore and introduce new fashion elements.

Khôra is about exploring the human physical expression and perceiving the evolution of boundaries through fashion design in four-dimensional space. It studies the multidimensional perception evolved in the four-dimensional space and the multidimensional possibilities of garments. In three-dimensional space, fashion design mainly presents a static image, while in four-dimensional space, fashion design emphasizes fluidity.

 In the project Khôra, I combined the principles of kaleidoscope and fractal, and used digital to show the shape and evolution of the body and garments in different dimensional spaces. Its essence is that every higher-dimensional space is a superposition of low-dimensional space, and multiple low-dimensional spaces are states that exist simultaneously and are contained in them. Each different dimensional space will have a corresponding dimensional impact on the evolution of the body and the form of garments. When entering the four-dimensional space, all human matter will unfold into four dimensions, and the interwoven low-dimensional space enables people to simultaneously perceive the climate, time, physical form and so on in multiple different dimensional spaces. Therefore,in this space, garments can be affected by unstable dimensions ,presenting multiple states.

Through the relationship between multi-dimensional space and garments, this project makes people realize that different dimensions also affect and shape our bodies and perceptions, especially in the four-dimensional space. Because the body is the medium through which humans interact with the world, people perceive the space around them through the body. This interaction of physical perception and space shapes the way people interact with their environment. When humans enter the four-dimensional space, they evolve a richer and more sensitive ‘multi-dimensional perception’ to feel and understand the form, transform and movement in space. My design is for human beings to adapt to the various forms in the four-dimensional space. I hope to use fashion as a medium to explore the body evolution and perceptual boundaries in the higher dimensional space.
