Fashion (MA)

Riven Liu

Liu was born in China, she was studying apparel design and merchandising management in Oregon State University in the U.S. The study experience makes her want to learn more about fashion.

Uncertainty from the outside world always stimulates her curiosity, pushing her to fuse those contradictions together. Liu thinks fusion itself is a kind of innovation. Surprising effects can be achieved by fusing different elements, which will provide her with various possibilities of design. She also thinks that design cannot be separated from her personal background and surrounding environment and culture. Therefore, when designing, she tends to integrate contemporary elements carefully selected with a cohort of research, finally expressed through fashion.

While trying to create my own fusion system of merging conflicting elements, I’m also trying to find my vibe, and who I really am.

There are unknow fields inside of me.

I’m on my way to light them up.

[ START ]The inspiration comes from a series of photograph that can represent my own identity. In those pictures, I found each object has connections with each other.
FAITH
RESEARCH + DEVELOPMENTThen I started to do research about architectures. I found some interesting curves and lines in different type of architectures, and made collages and developed some sketches. Moreover, I researched the process of building architectural structures in 3D software and captures some interesting pieces, then developed structures and tried to do some silhouette experiments.
