Xiaoyue Liu, a creative accessory designer who major in matching and innovative material exploration, breaking the traditional design.

In the past exploration design, she like to get inspiration from personal experience and observation of life. And create thought-provoking accessories, installations and wearable art. The forms of expression are also different, there are bags, wearable devices, shoes, glasses and so on. In the continuous development, found that glasses have changed from a traditional nearsightedness function to an indispensable fashion item, then she have developed a strong interest in the direction of glasses.

Xiaoyue believes that breaking the traditional commercial design and exploring new things is the beginning of innovation and change, and it is also a symbol of world development and social progress. In the progress of the project, she realized that the glasses were mostly made of hard material and the same structure. The components of glasses are easy to break, and many times they are uncomfortable to wear. Some ideas arose from this, such as: whether it can change eyewear structure and material, so that it can be more comfortable and also have different functions. Can eyewear be dessert? Can the eyewear stand or shape like a piece of paper for easy carrying? If we do not need glasses case, glasses can be like clothes at any time in suitcases, schoolbags and have other forms of wearing, convenient for us to going outside.

In daily life, I have observed that many people are troubled by the nose pad of glasses. The bridge of the nose is indentation, uncomfortable, affecting the appearance. Many students and young people use a string to hang up the temple of the glasses, or wrap the nose pad with cloth to relieve the trouble caused by the nose pad. This method can only be used in dormitories or at home, and it will not last for a long time. As a designer, I came up with the idea of modifying the nose pad, how to make the glasses comfortable and aesthetic. Therefore, I designed and made a series of designs that turned the hidden nasal pad into a visible one, which allows people to replace the shape and color of the nose pad according to their preferences, including the eyewear frame silicone cover, which can also be easily replaced.

In addition, since eyeglasses are very easy to crush and shatter, I began to explore soft materials (cotton candy, sponge silicone, etc.) and tried to replace the hard temple with these materials. I found the silicone material to be soft and long-lasting, and the hardness can be adjusted in the process of moulding. So I made it in moulding mothed, and got a series of standing glasses, just like a dessert. The nasal pad indentation problem is solved, but Its comfort and portability need improvement.

This semester, in the process of learning, I observed that not only the nose bracket and eyeglass temples, but also every part of traditional glasses is easy to break or deform due to the hard material properties. There are also some overweight people who will get indentation no matter how the temples are adjusted. In order to find a solution to these problems, I came up with the idea of transforming traditional eyewear and took inspiration from pull sugar making: Could glasses be combined with soft materials? If it can be laid flat on the table like paper and will not break no matter how you squeeze it. After continuous attempts, optimization and modification of the design, I finally added the method of composition, so that the glasses legs can be rotated 180 degrees forward and forward at will. Finally, I realized the function that the glasses can be flat, easy to use, easy to carry.
