Wenxin Tang works across textiles and performance. Her work often centers on the relationship between materials and emotions. She views dynamic and vibrant textile components as a medium of communication. She seeks to challenge the combination of textile and body movement as a way of art expression.

About Playing…

Knitting itself is a technical craft that inquires skill and knowledge, meanwhile, it serves as a form of nonverbal and visual communication. The project challenges this feature of knitting through performance and human interaction.

Origin from cat’s cradle, body parts interacting with strings can be view as a “game”. The project emphasized this characteristic in using large-scaled knitted tubes, simplify the knitting process into a “game” that invites audience to use their body movement in interacting and communicating with materials. In the process of body knitting, it also allows audience to explore the playfulness of nonverbal self-expression.
