SHU YING

Shuying Yang is a Chinese designer currently based in London and previously graduated from the fashion program at Parsons School of Design. Her work currently focuses on exploring fashion with textiles, photography, film, storytelling, and body movements.

She is strongly influenced by growing up surrounded by huge mountains and minority groups in highland China, leading to her worship of nature and living a slow lifestyle. She esteems craftsman’s spirit, the taken time and effort of hands have been an indispensable part of her approach.

By exploring the connection between time, space, and people, and inspiring by her daily life, shuying attempts to arouse wearers' emotions, feeling and a sense of ease through her work.

trip

This project is inspired by this 15 days road trip that I went on with my mom in the western part of China, mainly focusing on my vision and feeling during the trip and exploring both my internal and external connection with my mom, our existence within space and our connection with nature.

Morning,

windswept grains of sand,

Whirling in the air,

like mist,

spreading,

resting upon the western ridge.

At dusk,

sunlight lingers,

sand sink around the steps,

soft and warm;

As night falls,

The milky way hangs low,

silent, and hear,

the wind rustling from far, far away…
