Statement
Studying MA Print at the Royal College of Art, Henderson's research and observations are centred around intimate themes communicating the female, and the personal experience. Her current work explores the constructed image of the woman, and questions the ways in which societal and judicial factors impact the narrative of our existence and relationship to the body and self.
Working with lens based media, Henderson is particularly interested in the hybrid of analogue and digital methods of making. Frequently using the scanner to manipulate and distort her own photographs and imagery, she intends to communicate the glitching discord between one’s sense of self and the expectations imposed on them through mass media, political powers, interpersonal relationships, and the evolving perception of gender roles. Her most recent work questions the passive image of the woman in relation to navigation of sexual trauma. Questioning the push and pull of both consent and passivity in contemporary sexual scripts, she intends to also explore the notion of healing and recovery; we are consistently evolving, regenerating, and pushing forward.
