Textiles (MA)

Limin Chen

Limin Chen is an interdisciplinary textile designer whospecialises in the fusion of applied robotics, fashion, and traditional textile craftsmanship. Their work revolves around the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with new technologies.

One of Limin's main areas of focus is the study of energy transport within plants. By observing life forms from different angles, Limin gained a deep understanding of the intricate energy transfer mechanism inside plants. She explores the possibilities of textiles in biomimicry, a field that combines biology and technology. By fusing their multidisciplinary knowledge, Limin investigates the interaction between humans and the "life" of textiles.

Bring the healing power of nature into people's lives. Her aim is to push the boundaries of textile design to create new and engaging experiences for individuals.

Plant Rhythm – the movement of plant cells

Sensing Creatures: Dynamic Textile Plants and Flowers.

The project develops an interactive device that uses the bionics principle of textiles to construct the energy transfer process of plant branches, explore the life forms of plants and the interactive relationship between plants and the world, study the mechanical movement structure, and use the distance between the audience and the device as input. When the audience interacts with the device, the device is evoked to "breathe" and guide the viewer to experience the sense of breathing and interaction Senses help us connect with the rhythms of nature.

Through the medium of textiles, I hope to create an immersive healing experience where people can feel the breath of plants and the transmission of energy. This installation simulates the changes and energy flow of plants during their growth through a dynamic textile structure. Viewers can interact with the installation, feel as if they are in nature, and resonate with the rhythm of plants. And experience the silent communication between plants and the world. The flexibility and plasticity of textiles allow us to reproduce the ecosystem of plants in a unique way, and through the participation of viewers, feel the presence of plants and the transmission of energy.

It is hoped that this installation can bring a sense of calm and serenity to the viewers, helping them to escape from the daily busy life, reconnect with nature, and experience the beautiful presence of plant life.

Nutrients in plants are transported through cycles. I use hand beaded construction to express the vascular structure inside the plant, and use textiles as a medium to express and transport energy. Breathing - Day and Night
Breathing - Day and NightIn a dark environment, add lighting effects to the device. Like all the plants in the night are breathing, their vitality is endless.
