Ripple Lianyi Chen

Everything comes from Chaos, but it will have a certain Rule eventually.

When we begin to trace the origins of right and wrong, and learn to judge what is necessary, our moral perspectives as human beings start to develop. Shaped by objective factors such as our social background, gender, upbringing, educational experiences, and more, our personalities emerge, and we become who we are. Are we merely predetermined programs? We are continuously fed information, and our differences arise from the variations in what we are fed. Are we adapting to this objectivity, and if so, in those moments, who are we?

Are we objective manifestations and reflections? Are we driven by instinct and operating shells? What exactly are we the products of? How do we confront this objectivity? Do we truly possess free will? Where do our capacities and limitations lie?

Humanity has never ceased to explore rules. We continually interpret the fundamental motivations between individuals. We deconstruct the collective influence on individual will. We have science, philosophy, and religion. But does absolute truth truly exist? Where does our measure of truth reside? How exactly should we perceive life and existence?

Ripple Lianyi Chen in her studio.

Ripple Lianyi Chen is a textile artist, innovator, and entrepreneur who studied Textiles at the Royal College of Art and graduated from Fashion Design & Material Science at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology.

Primarily based in London and Beijing, her work focuses on future textiles and sustainability, seeking to explore the relationship between women, nature, and the principles of the world.

She is the founder of lokaReboon and Ripple Art Studio.

lokaReboon is a sustainable and environmentally friendly material made from recycled and discarded balloons. It utilizes recycled balloons as raw materials, which possess exceptional strength and abrasion resistance, resulting in a prolonged lifespan. The vibrant colors of the balloons are retained in the new material, eliminating the need for additional dyeing and avoiding the generation of secondary industrial wastewater.

Ripple Art Studio was established in Beijing with a foundation in the research of recyclable new materials, while also engaging in a diverse range of design disciplines, research, public welfare collaborations, educational workshops, and projects dedicated to the commercialization of recyclable materials within the industry. The studio's shared interest and focus on art, culture, society, and the environment enable them to unearth unexpected stories, details, and overlooked materials and techniques. Each project undertaken by the studio is an opportunity to bridge rationality with sensibility, connecting artistic aesthetics with practical solutions for current and potential environmental issues on Earth.
