These paintings consider the structural and visual potential of the most basic elements of a painting: frame, surface and light. Taking cue from traditional material processes alongside a history of abstraction, I aim to question the space between what the artist can manipulate and what exists within the more primitive properties of the materials. These works ask the viewer to look closely and slowly at what lies both inside and outside the frame.
