Weilu Wang
About
Weilu is an animator and cartoonist from China who holds a BA in Media Arts and Design from Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College.
During Weilu’s undergraduate studies, she studied and produced various works in video, game and web design. Realizing her interest in animation and games and her desire to create, she spent two months over the summer as a graphic design intern at Seasun Entertainment, working on posters for a handheld game project and learning some of the commercial applications of the industry at the company.
With a desire to break through in animation and storytelling, she decided to continue her studies in animation at the Royal College of Art.
Statement
Weilu loves to paint her own wild and whimsical ideas with lines. She works mainly with a computer and a graphics tablet. Digital painting gives her the freedom to experiment with dynamic and static collages and drawings. She is fascinated by the graphic transformation of flat silhouettes. In frame-by-frame animation, she sees a possibility that lies somewhere between stability and instability.
More than still lifes or landscapes, Weilu likes to observe various cultural phenomena in human society, to analyze in depth the purpose of various actions and words that people confide in online or in real life, and to focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the present. These hobbies are the inspiration for her work and she hopes to use various artistic metaphors to present these dilemmas to the viewer. The viewer's reactions and reflections are also part of her work.
