Anej Golčar
About
Anej Golčar is a Slovenian stop-motion filmmaker. He holds an honours degree from Willem de Kooning Academy (the Netherlands) with a major in Animation and a minor in Visual Culture.
His practice is defined by a keen passion for set design and puppetry, which he combines with an absurd-realist approach to storytelling.
Anej's research interests focus on puppets' emoting constraints leading to their inherent morbidness, which permeates his practical output.
His films, provide a layered insight into often morbid or troubled intimate relations of his protagonists, which despite being fictional, root in careful real-world observations.
Statement
Just Keep Breathing is a short stop-motion puppet film investigating the often overlooked issues of elderly carers' abuse in familial settings.
We follow the protagonist's struggle with the hostile design and liminality of a low-budget airliner, exacerbated by a personal space-invading stranger, only to realise that we were witnessing a warped perspective narrated by his precarious state all along.
