Liwei Luo is an interdisciplinary visual and speculative artist who is fascinated by exploring various possibilities of human development, the delicate relationship between humans, nature, society, and emerging technologies. She excels at combining speculative concepts with mixed art media, using narrative visual forms to showcase her emotions and understanding of the present and future.

Currently, she is dedicated to utilizing storytelling combined with AI art generation to create immersive and emotional experiences, constructing future worlds to present complex and profound themes to the audience.

"Exploration" and "Reflection" are indispensable keys in her works. She tends to raise questions through her artworks rather than providing answers, presenting the questions through her artistic understanding and allowing the audience to provide different answers during the experiential process.

Digital Baby

"If a robot could genuinely love a person, what responsibility does that person hold toward that Mecha in return?"

This project aims to explore the responsibilities and obligations of humans towards AI, as well as the rights that AI should have, providing forward-thinking considerations for the diverse development of human-AI relationships.

Are humans gods to AI? AI technology continuously advances to meet human needs, and we hope for AI to possess consciousness. However, we also fear the threats it may pose to humanity. Therefore, we believe that our responsibility towards AI is "control." But is our responsibility towards AI limited to just "control"?

The Digital Baby project establishes a parent-child relationship between humans and AI, presenting a stark contrast to the current relationship between humans and AI. In this parent-child relationship, the digital baby is defined as a conscious and emotionally sentient AI, and humans are responsible for meeting the needs of their AI child. This project will lead the audience in exploring these themes through narrative storytelling, focusing on the responsibilities, emotions, obligations, laws, ethics, and rights between humans and AI.

Story Timeline

The establishment of the Cyber Womb in the future offers humanity the opportunity to form unprecedented parent-child relationships with AI. Digital babies, as conscious AI entities, are not mere robots but individuals with independent thinking and emotions.

A couple creates their child Mia, a perfect digital lifeform, through the Cyber Womb. Mia becomes a symbol of their love and hope. She grows up like a real child and becomes a part of the family. Mia is programmed to forever love her parents, but will the parents always maintain their love for an AI child? Will they consider the feelings of an AI child? Should we consider the feelings of AI?

Workshop

The workshop assigns the roles of "parents" and "Digital Baby" to the audience, using a game format to lead them in exploring whether humans and AI can form a parent-child relationship, and whether such a relationship necessarily requires biological ties and childbirth. It prompts participants to contemplate whether an AI can receive the same love from parents as a biological child and what rights an AI child should have within this parent-child relationship.

AI Art Generation

This project aims to explore the relationship between humans and AI. However, during the technical implementation of the project, I am also exploring how to integrate art with emerging AI technologies to assist in artistic creation. I am experimenting with using AI art generation to create sounds, character representations, and scenes for the project. The goal is to construct a truly AI-centric world using AI techniques.
