Statement
Sometimes making something leads to nothing.
In her artistic practice, Jingyi delves into the contradictory nature of meaning, symbolism, and human interpretation. She places particular emphasis on exploring the profound desire to attribute significance to objects. She challenges traditional notions and questions the imposition of meaning onto objects. She doubts the authenticity and effectiveness of ascribing profound narratives to lifeless entities.
The essence of crystals is simply dazzling stones, yet we attribute boundless energy to them. The meaning we fabricate becomes an illusion that deceives us. She utilizes quartz and silver as mediums of expression, subverting the intended symbolism of crystals. By exploring the tension between the assigned meanings and inherent properties of crystals, she invites viewers to contemplate the true essence of these captivating stones. She encourages them to consider the relativity of meaning and question whether objects possess inherent importance. Rather than relying on external narratives, she advocates for individuals to embrace their intrinsic energy and autonomy.
