Theresa Weber

"Poetic Vitalities of Entanglement" is seeking for in a non-hierarchical approach, that challenges power dynamics

through poetic intervention. I am interested in "Planetarization", which describes the process in which the different

cultures move toward convergence, without, however, losing their own ways of life or identities. This is in contrast to

globalization which seek to establish a worldwide system based on an ostensibly “free” market economy, that is hierarchical and exploitative.

My work examines an anti-monumental approach through the concept of weaving materials, fragments

and topics together. It is inspired by the lived experience of hybrid identities that can be understood as a network - fluid, complex

and unfixed and includes research and poetic symbolism, that is being materialized though traditional gestures, such as weaving, braiding, knotting, modeling, wrapping

and trace making.

Theresa Weber (b. 1996, Germany, Düsseldorf) graduated at the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie in 2021, after studying in the classes of Ellen Gallagher and Katharina Grosse. She is now based in London and graduating her MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art. For her first public commission in the UK, she produced a site-specific installation responding to the history and architecture of Somerset House. Located in the stairwell of the Stamp Stairs of the South Wing at Somerset House, the work aims to connect the building’s levels in new ways and stand as a counterpoint to the hierarchical and complex relations drawn from Somerset House’s centuries-long history. Sponsored by Morgan Stanley, this commission is running until the end of November. Upcoming shows are her solo show at FOLD Gallery London in October, a Museum commission at Kunstmuseum Bochum in November and a solo show at Chert Lüdde Berlin in January. Theresa Weber has most recently featured in Bloomberg New Contemporaries, South London Gallery (2022) and ‘Studio Response [#3]’, Saatchi Gallery, London (2022/23). Her first institutional solo-shows took place in Germany in 2021, in addition to several institutional and independent shows in the UK, Germany, Belgium, Germany and Italy in 2021, 2022 and 2023. She won several scholarships and prizes on Germany in 2021 and 2022.
