Intelligent Mobility (MA)

Muhang Yu

The Softness Manifesto, a vehicle with an intelligently inflated exterior used to enhance communication between vehicles, between a vehicle and a pedestrian and compromise the ever-growing hostility among road users.

Additionally, with it I would like to challenge the ever-expanding aggressive aesthetics in the automotive industry.

The status quo of automotive design has been outdated for too long. While this is a time when diversity is celebrated, the aesthetics, workflows and values in the automotive design fields are still centered around key elements like 'sleek', 'sporty' and 'masculine', and that bores me. Instead, I would like to celebrate softness, communication, a friendly and welcoming design for all.

An automotive designer who is always interested in things beyond conventional car design approaches.

With previous experience respectively at an EV startup, a renowned car design house and a traditional luxury brand, I have developed a range of skillsets and a unique mindset that helps me come up with professional and innovative design proposals, and my study at the RCA further enhanced the innovative design approaches.

Later in 2022 I returned to the RCA with open-mindedness, to finally design what I would like to design and what one could only do as a student designer.
