As part of is MA his work mainly focused around designing through knit and to create soft sculpture. Deepening his exploration of texture which has been an underlying motivator at the core of his practice.
Stemming from the two extremes of “Matter painting” and "Metamaterial", these two terms have been explored into the physicality of form and texture but understanding texture can be viewed and recorded as wavelength. The work attempts to encompass texture as visual, tactile, spatial and metaphysical sides of texture and using this circularity to sustain a familiarity within the work while applying this notion of transcendence. Understanding texture is a bi-product of our natural and man-made world but questioning if it is a fundamental/opening for new possibility that intrinsically formats and navigates it's own pathway within the world and design. This idea breaks down the brutal nature of these surfaces and opens up a new dialogue within our standards of beauty, to not shun away from what is used, weathered or broken but to embrace it.
Kieran has channelled his practice and thinking into product during his MA, moving into footwear and ring design.
