Jingzhi Liu

Jingzhi Liu is a textile artist and pattern artist from China. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design from Donghua University in Shanghai, and she is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Textiles at the Royal College of Art in London, United Kingdom.

Jingzhi excels in using the language of patterns and colours to narrate stories and concepts. By combining the characteristics of textiles with patterns, she expresses her ideas abstractly.

While at RCA, she explored the relationship between loops and inheritance through research on patterns and colours and utilised the properties of fabrics to create unique visual sensations.

"Just like fallen leaves returning to the roots, the leaves become nourishment for new buds as they wither and die."

Life in the natural world is a cycle of ascent. The reproduction and development of humans, animals, and plants have undergone long generations of accumulation. From youth to old age, they leave behind the next generation to further develop on the foundation of the past.

I view the entire project as one category of life, where each iteration and update represent a "cycle of life."

Starting from the origin, each time the design progresses to a certain stage, the result of the previous "loop" is used as the starting point for the next "loop." Countless iterations and inheritances are overlaid, giving the work a sense of history and vitality.
