Jewellery & Metal (MA)

Haoran Zhang

In her decade-long exploration of the jewellery field, she has focused on the deeper connection between the functionality of jewellery and the wearer, combining beauty and function, so that her artistic expression focuses on demonstrating a deeper level of subjective consciousness. In turn, she uses jewellery as an artistic to intertwine the spiritual world with the real world. Her work incorporates subjective emotions, social thinking, and behavioural habits, combining emotion and movement in multiple dimensions, giving artistic properties and emotional value to her work, thus building a bridge of communication with the wearer as a base and providing more value to the wearer in both psychological and physical terms.

Zhang Haoran is a Chinese artist and jewellery designer currently based in London. She studied for MA in jewellery and metals at the Royal College of Art. A strong spirit of exploration serves as a driving force for continuous advancement.

Repetitive movement-Rotating could relieve anxiety.

I find great comfort in creating functional jewellery that offers comfort and relaxation to those who struggle with anxiety in a world of constant stimulation and ever-increasing stress. I am fascinated by artworks presented in wearable form that not only decorate visually but also alleviate and address the wearer's emotional and mental health issues. At the same time, I emphasize practicality, which means that jewellery should empower the wearer and help them to cope with anxiety and negative emotions. I therefore include thoughtful details in each design, providing tactile accents as reminders to the wearer that soothe the sensory experience. In tedious, large, or small dilemmas, functional jewellery will act as wearable companions, providing an underlying sense of security and positive psychological cues to protect inner peace.

By combining a creative view, the characteristics of natural materials and an understanding of the difficulties posed by anxiety, I make functional jewellery a psychological catalyst. Providing a richer application for the relief of anxiety in a changing society. Adding a healthy and interactive connection to the artistic attributes of functional jewellery. It is my sincere hope that these wearable works of art will become a re-charging haven, a remote part of a troubled life, where people can rest, find their center, and regain their balance.
