Haoran Duan

Duan’s current theme aims to explore the nature of the flow of factual truth in everyday life.

Haoran Duan is a jewellery artist from Beijing, China. Duan obtained his BA from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. He is graduating from the Jewellery and Metal MA programme at the Royal College of Art. His art emerges from his reflection on life and human nature, always changing his position and maintaining an objective third-party perspective.

Duan is adept at interdisciplinary integration, and stereoscopic thinking is an important method in his creations. He uses parametric design as a tool in jewellery design. He sees the essence of things through phenomena and uses the language of jewellery to penetrate the most overlooked aspects of people's lives.

Duan’s current theme aims to explore the nature of the flow of factual truth in daily life. What is true and what is false in human history. How a very small thing can explode on the internet, and how a big thing can be buried. History is always written by the victor. All we see is the legacy that has been handed down.

People are the most important link in this process, the makers, the senders, the receivers, the tamperers, and the finishers of these facts, great and small. Fact is passed between people and spreads. Duan sees people as containers of fact, which change as it flows fact is passed between people and spreads and is eventually received by each individual.

The object illustrates the process of transmission and explores human choices in the face of fact at the same time. It invites the audience to reflect on facts. However, people have emotions and subjective thoughts, and it is difficult to avoid the fact changes in transmission. We don’t know precisely to what extent what we see and hear is a fact. We need to keep clear thinking to identify this before we make our next judgement.
