Statement
“There really are no such things as Art. There are only artists.” - Sir. Ernst Gombrich
Zhang Ziteng / 227 (b. 1999, China) is engaged in various media works, including large-scale installations, writing, and dynamic imagery. His current focus lies in the physical forms of media and their combinations and whether the placement of different media in an environment leads to quantitative analog transformations. He seeks to find his own existence in the reflection process of objects, and how to confront our needs and self-awareness in the era of instant gratification and neoliberalism. Through his practice, he aims to explore the biases, uncertainties, authenticity, and boundaries of self-awareness within specific real-life environments.

This series of works also reflect the continuous transformation of my creative medium in three years, from film, installation, and microscope to digital media. In the process of my observation and self-examination, the identities of the two of us will change slightly over time over some uncertain factors.
Contradicting the most stereotypical, cliche understanding of what a heterosexual relationship is, I am more emotional, sometimes more capricious, and she is petite and rational. Mythological stories and religious visual symbols also metaphor the contradictions between the sexes in history, and they also specifically refer to and emphasize the inevitability of encounters and separation.
