Zishen Zeng

Zishen Zeng (b.2000, China) is an artist working in sculpture. He studied for a BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts (2019-2022).

He is interested in the relationship between the objects, physical force, balance and humor. Zishen’s working method is one of juxtaposition, he is working directly with combinations of found objects and gravitational force. He demonstrates an innovative, materially specific approach to practice, and presents a precise visual language in which the combination of certain objects, and primary building materials become the vocabulary of the whole.

Zishen Zeng

Zishen is involved in a dexterous production process, in which balance, weight and form a play of tensions and unexpected configurations. Zishen creates a nuanced balance between technical accomplishment and contextual research.

Zishen's frames of reference can be loosely located within the production of a strand of contemporary art where suspense and humour become tools for seeing objects and their relationships anew.

He is deeply engaged and curious about the potentials within sculpture for humour and tension to meet, and he is actively exploring the processes employed included the object based play of assemblage, balance, repetition, and surprise.
