Yadi Li

Yadi Li is a Chinese glass artist based in London. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2021 and her Master's degree from the Royal College of Art in 2023. With glass as her primary creative medium, she explores microcosmic social issues through her unique perspective and creates profound expressions, utilising the diverse properties of glass.

Yadi has exhibited at China Hejian International Lampworking Glass Art Festival, Hejian, China (2020); ‘Tracing Origins, Pursuing Dreams’, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts Graduation Invitational Exhibition, Guangzhou, China (2021); Qingdao International Glass Media Art Exhibition, Qingdao, China (2022), and the RCA WIP Exhibition, London (2023)

Yadi centres her artistic practice around a fundamental question: ‘What is the essence of the world?’ From this enquiry, a series of thought-provoking questions emerge, becoming the driving force behind her endless exploration.

In this exploration, she integrates personal experiences with interdisciplinary references, encompassing realms such as religion, philosophy, and biology. Through artistic creation, she immerses herself in this intangible perspective, giving birth to an otherworldly and enigmatic ‘absurd world’.

In Yadi’s practice, the language of glass is her particular mode of expression. Continually pushing the boundaries of the glass medium, she explores its potential by blending the crystalline clarity of cast glass with the rough, blurred qualities of pâté de verre. This bestows upon glass an alternative existence that makes it appear real yet unreal. Yadi uncovers and creates textures akin to the other facets of glass, concealing vastly different inner essences.
